Dr. Schmidt is a chiropractor and a naprapath. Naprapathy is a system of treatments that utilizes manipulation of muscles, ligaments and tendons, in conjuction with dietary measures, to facilitate the recuperative and regenerative powers of the body. Naprapathy is an offshoot of the chiropractic profession and been around since 1908, when chiropractors split into different factions as a result of differences in opinion as to the fundamental cause sease in the human body. Whereas a chiropractor will focus on spinal alignment and manipulation of the skeletal system, naprapaths believe that it is the soft tissues and ligaments that determine the alignment of the skeletal system and therefore focus on soft tissue manipulation. The end result is a treatment that feels something like a combination of a traditional chiropractic adjustment and a deep massage. Heavenly, if you ask me. Naprapaths do not use dynamic thrusts, but apply gentle manipulation to ease the bone through its full range of possible motion. Since Dr. Schmidt's introduction to Naprapathy in 1981 she has also incorporated the Oriental Medicine she learned from Dr. Pak Lau and his daughter, Dr. Lisa Lau of Chicago's Chinatown. In addition, to the various services she provides including the naprapathic treatments, acupuncture treatments, Abrahams Hicks Counseling, she also has written books on nutrition and carries her own line of supplements.
